Mechanicsburg Pa - The ARDC midget drivers returned to Silver Spring Speedway for a feature only event on Saturday night. While rain once again made an appearance, it was Ray Bull, Bloomsburg Pa., who appeared in victory lane.
Bull won his fourth consecutive feature event at Silver Spring Speedway following a rain delay.
Bull was quick to thank Silver Spring Speedway and the fans for sticking it out through the inclimate weather. Track preparations and drying efforts were quickly instituted. By 10:30 p.m., racing was back underway.' The track was really racy tonight,' said Bull.' I think there is a groove on the bottom as well.'
Bull quickly adapted to the top lane where he was gaining steadily on polesitter Marc Dailey. Dailey of Brownsburg In. had opened a four-car length lead when his evening ended in a puff of smoke. Dailey's mechanical misfortune found Bull in second place
Following the restart, Bull darted away from the field. The battle within the top-5 ensued allowing Bull to gain a large lead. Steve Craig, Levittown Pa., defended his second place position until he began to encounter lapped traffic.
Mark Freeland, Ickesburg Pa., and Ed Stimely Jr. of McVeytown Pa. were quick to mount a challenge on Craig. Freeland and Stimely raced each other hard leaving more time for Bull to pull away.
On the last lap it was Stimely who prevailed in second place. for Yetter Racing.' We're tickled,' said Stimely of his finish.' We're getting there,' he said. The Yetter Racing team is slowly returning to championship form. Stimely is once again operating his championship car, and posting steady results.
For Freeland, the track was good on the top and bottom. I had a good rhythm going when I got into second, and then I slid back to third. I had more trouble with the lap cars than anything,' he continued.
Rounding out the top-five was Craig and Randy Mausteller of Bloomsburg Pa. Mausteller had a hard fought battle with sixth place finisher Fred Schell of Phoenixville Pa.
Hats off to rookie Scott Lawrence, Conklin N.Y. Lawrence posted his third consecutive top-10 finish on Pennsylvania dirt.
Next up for the ARDC midgets is the Grandview Thunder on the Hill Show. The midgets will participate in the 5 twenty-five lap features on Sunday night May 26.
