ARDC vs Modified Drivers Challenge Race Series

Easton, Pa., February 3 --- The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) Midget drivers and a team of modified drivers from several dirt and asphalt tracks in the Northeast will go wheel to wheel in a tw o race series in February and March. The battlegrounds for these clashes will be the indoor kart racing facilities, Fast Tracks and S&S Speedway. The first race is Saturday, February 28, at Fast Trac ks in Broadway, New Jersey. The rematch will be on Sunday, March 15, at S&S Speedway in Effort, Pa. The ARDC team for the Fast Tracks race on February 28 are 1997 ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series Champion, Ed Stimely Jr., Gary Mondschein, Phil DiMario, Doug Borger and Mike Lapp. The drivers that have b een invited to comprise the Modified team are Ken Brenn Jr. and Dave Witte from Flemington Speedway, former DIRT Modified driver, Mark Kenyon, and former Modified driver, Ray Woodall. Current Modifi ed driver, Bruce Kline, has also been invited to join the Modified squad. The Modified drivers are very confident about their chances in this race. Ken Brenn Jr. said, "I'm coming to this race bec ause I can't wait to kick the Midget guys a--es! With or without wings we're going to take them to the mat!" Former Super DIRT Week Modified Rookie of the Year and co-host of the "Monday Night Motor sports" radio show, Mark Kenyon said, "I hear the Midget guys are already at Fast Tracks practicing. I think this should be like NASCAR and test dates should be limited. But that's O.K. ARDC races with wings and wings are for chickens!" ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series President, Ray McCabe, has volunteered to act as Race Director for the event and the Official starter for the ARDC Midgets, Ron G rater, has volunteered to wave the flags. Bob Marlow, writer for National Speed Sport News, has been invited to serve as the official announcer for the ARDC/Modified Challenge on February 28 and Ear l Krause will be announcing the March 15th event. White Trophy Company of Bensalem, Pa. is donating trophies to the top three in the race and is also making T-shirts to commemorate this historic cha llenge race! Ed Pados, owner of Slate Belt Big A in Bangor, Pa. will also present Pennzoil and Big A products to the winner in Victory Lane. Fast Tracks will open at 2:00 PM on February 28 and race fans will be have the opportunity to race with all of the competing drivers as they take hot laps. Then, the ARDC/Modified Challenge Race tak es the green flag at 5:00 PM. After the race, the drivers will stay and compete against race fans. The same format will be repeated at S&S Speedway for the March 15 race. S&S will open the doors for racing at noon on Sunday, March 15. The ARDC team for the S&S Speedway ARDC/Modified Challenge Race consists of Mike Roselli Jr., Nick Fornoro Jr., Tom Martocci, Doug Borger and Gary Mondschein. In other ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series news, the 1998 racing schedule is coming together with signed contracts returning to ARDC Business Manager, Mike Roselli, Sr. The May 8 date at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. and the July 17 race at Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, North Carolina have been confirmed. Also a General Membership meeting is being held on Sunday, February 8, at Lobitz Catering Hall in Hazleton, Pa. The meeting starts at 1:00 PM. Then, on Saturday, March 28, ARDC will hold its annual Media Day at Lobitz Catering Hall in Hazleton, Pa. This event will begin at Noon. This year the Media Day will feature a Beef and Beer Bash and a racing video party. The ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series 1998 season opens the following Saturday, April 4, at Silver Spring Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
