SOLEMN TONE FOR ALLGAIER HEADING TO THE CHILI BOWL
Tulsa, OK (January 9, 2007) -Heavy hearts hang over all auto racers today with the untimely passing of legendary Bobby Hamilton on Sunday in Lebanon, TN. Justin Allgaier, who will be competing in the 2007 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma this weekend, joins in the solemn tone.
"I had the opportunity to talk to Bobby at a Fan Fest before the Gateway Race in St. Louis," Justin Allgaier said. "I have always been impressed with his style of driving and his record in all three premier NASCAR Series is admirable. Anytime we loose a driver, any driver, it is devastating to the racing community but when it is someone with Bobby Hamilton's credentials, not saying he was a pioneer but he has been a leader bringing the sport to where it is now; he will surely be missed. I can't imagine how difficult it is for Bobby Jr. right now. My dad has been by my side at every race I have ever driven with this weekend at the Chili Bowl being no exception -- I've always appreciated dads support and I believe now it will mean even more. My heartfelt condolences go out to BHR and Bobby Hamilton's entire family."
Allgaier is no stranger to the Chili Bowl. He has been participating in the annual event since he was 14 years old where he made the A-Main on his first qualifying night, an effort that many racers never achieve. Allgaier won his qualifying heat in 2006 but his night ended early in main event on lap one when he and another competitor got together sending Allgaier upside down on his roof.
"I've heard it said that some NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers would rather win the Chili Bowl then the Daytona 500," Allgaier said. "I won't go that far because I'd like the opportunity to race in the Daytona 500 but winning the Chili Bowl would definitely be a major career highlight for me. I'd like to thank Ebby Bergfield, the team and especially all of the sponsors who helped us out. I hope to bring home a good finish or a win for them on Saturday night."
Allgaier will be driving the Ebby Bergfield owned NO. 86 Illinois Corn Marketing Board --Ethanol Performs, Auto Xpress, Hoosier Tire Midwest Midget. Pre-qualifying races begin at the Tulsa Expo Raceway for the 21st Annual Chili Bowl on Tuesday, January 9th. Qualifier races will be held Wednesday through Friday evening January 12th, 2007 with The Oklahoma Dodge Dealers championship feature events beginning on Saturday, January 13th.
