CROYDON, Pa., Feb. 25 - Joe Gudknecht of Croydon, Pa., a life/honor roll member of the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC), died Feb. 24 in a nursing home near his home in Croydon, Pa. He was in his mid-eighties.

He is survived by wife, Dora, and his son, ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series driver Craig Gudknecht, with whom he operated an automotive repair shop in Bensalem, Pa.

Gudknecht was a long-time car owner and a former club official. He was a member of the ARDC Board of Governors for several years in the 1970s. According to the records that are available, he was the first vice president in 1974, 1979 and 1980, a vice president in 1975, and a member of the Board in 1978.

His car carried the No. 35. Among its drivers over the years were his son; Dale Thomson, son of Johnny Thomson; and Frank Holz.

The funeral will be private.
