Chili Bowl Nationals Plow On Through Inclement Weather
TULSA, Okla. (January 12, 2007) -- There are a seemingly infinite number of reasons why thousands of race fans and hundreds of race teams migrate to Tulsa, OK, each January for the highly acclaimed O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
And one of the key reasons that the event has evolved into a virtual Race of Champions for top shoes from all variety of motorsports since the event's inception in 1987 is that the show goes on regardless of the weather conditions outside the Tulsa Expo Center.
With a mix of precipitation already coming down upon Tulsa and bleak forecasts for the balance of the weekend, the 21st Annual O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals will go on undeterred with Friday night's Oklahoma Dodge Dealers Qualifying Night followed up by Saturday's Oklahoma Dodge Dealers Championship Saturday slate of feature events for the nearly 280 entries from throughout the United States, Australia and Canada.
NASCAR stars Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne take on two-time Chili Bowl champion Cory Kruseman and approximately 70 other contenders tonight, with the top four finishers locking themselves into Saturday night's 50-lap O'Reilly Chili BowI Nationals championship feature.
Eight driver have already secured starting positions for Saturday's feature, including Wednesday's Creek Nation Casino Qualifying event winner Davey Ray and Thursday's Bass Pro Shops Qualifying feature winner Shane Cottle. Also locked in are Wednesday night runners Brad Kuhn, Casey Shuman and Donnie Ray Crawford as well as Thursday reps Justin Allgaier, J.J. Yeley and Jason Leffler.
Tonight's heat races fire off at 6:15 p.m., with Saturday's early features getting under way at 1:00 p.m.
