O'REILLY CHILI BOWL MIDGET NATIONALS ENTRY UPDATE
TULSA, Okla. (December 27, 2005) -- With the 20th Annual O'Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals just over two weeks away, the entry count stands at 270 for the prestigious event that will be contested at Tulsa Expo Raceway on January 11-14, 2006.
Several new drivers have been added to the entry list over the last few days, including Brandon Knupp, Daron Clayton and Mike Welker.
Ohio's Knupp, who was sixth in ARCA / ReMax Series points in 2005, was named the driver of the Tommy Briggs No. 10b entry. Also, 2005 Arizona Midget Racing Association champion Welker was announced as the driver of the Steve Sussex No. 48 entry.
Another new one on the list is Missouri-native Clayton. Set for his rookie Chili Bowl appearance aboard Kevin Gross' No. 86x machine, Clayton spent the '05 season in Indiana wingless Sprint Car action.
A pair of drivers have fallen off the entry list. Previous commitments will prevent 2005 Knoxville Nationals winner Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, IN, from piloting the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 67k entry at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
The Kunz stable is still among the stoutest in this year's Chili Bowl field with 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser, 2004 USAC Sprint Car champion Jay Drake and rising young stars Bryan Clauson and Darren Hagen each in Kunz Motorsports entries. A possible replacement driver for Kraig Kinser has not yet been determined.
Also, Missouri's Mallory Armfield will be unable to compete in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals after suffering a variety of serious injuries in a recent highway accident in Iowa.
