Knupp Rumbles to Third at Ft. Wayne in Friday Opener

(12/31/07 - Ft. Wayne, IN) - With a healthy field of 48 midgets on hand in Ft. Wayne on Friday night, Sidney, Ohio's Brandon Knupp wheeled his midget around the indoor arena with a time of 8.148, placing him 11th in the qualifying run down.

The 11th place qualifying run placed Knupp in the 6th starting spot on the outside of the 3rd row for the USAC midget heat race. At the green flag there was not much room for error and passing was a difficult task. However, Brandon managed to charge around 2 cars to a 4th place finish, but still 2 spots shy of a transfer spot into Friday nights Rumble Series feature, forcing him into the consolation race where he knocked off a 2nd place finish and a transfer position into the feature.

At the start of the 60 lap rumble Knupp from his view was much of a slam bang affair. The patience and perseverance that the 21 year old showed led him to the front of the field battling most of the evening with eventual 2nd place finisher Dave Darland. Several crashes including a multi car pile up in turn 4 brought the field to caution, which Knupp used to his advantage wheeling through the spinning cars. Driving like a man on a mission Knupp never looked back and came to the checkered flag with a strong 3rd place feature finish.

"We came up a little short on Friday but finishing 3rd in this tough field of cars is pretty good for us." Knupp added, "I guess it's the same for all racers we came here to win and finished 3rd and that's a great finish, we're just always looking to go faster, but we'll take it and go on to the next one."

Although Friday at the Rumble was a great day for Brandon Knupp, Saturday was not so good for him, the tracked changed with all of the rubber laid down from all of the accompanying racing and Knupp and the team just missed the set up a little and failed to qualify for the feature on Saturday, but left the Ft. Wayne event with a respectable 3rd place finish in Friday's feature.

Next up for Knupp will be the 22nd Annual Dodge Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, January 8 through January 12, 2008.
