ARDC CARQUEST Midgets Will Invade Virginia Twice
Easton, Pa., December 13 --- The American Racing Drivers Club will head south two times during the 1998 campaign. ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series Business Manager, Mike Roselli, has announced that an agreement has been reached with Langley Speedway promoter, Wayne Wyatt, for two shows at the Hampton, Virginia asphalt oval. The first appearance is scheduled for June 27, 1998 and ARDC's second race at Langley Speedway will be on September 19.
The ARDC CARQUEST Midget Annual Southern Tour has been a tradition for many years, but the last time the ARDC Midgets made two trips to race in the state of Virginia was in 1994. The Langley Speedway announcement should make ARDC car owners, Doug and Claudette Starrett, very happy. Their driver, former Micro Sprint star, Bryan Kobylarz, performs well in the south, winning back to back feature races in Virginia during the 1997 racing season. He won on June 13 at Southampton Speedway and was victorious again on June 14 at Langley Speedway. Kobylarz also finished third in the 1997 ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series point standings. Technically, Bryan Kobylarz could be credited with two wins in one day because the green flag didn't fly for the start of the Midget feature until nearly 1:00 a.m. at Southampton Speedway! What made these victories even more special for the Starrett/Kobylarz team is that Doug and Claudette Starrett are residents of Grafton, Virginia. Also, Bryan Kobylarz and his wife, Deanna, were celebrating their wedding anniversary that weekend. Kobylarz was also an ARDC CARQUEST feature winner on June 14, 1996 in Richmond, Virginia at Southside Speedway. The Kobylarz passion for "Southern Nights" mirrors the accomplishments of former ARDC Midget driver, Billy Hughes. Hughes won ARDC races three consecutive years during the annual Southern Tours. On August 1, 1987, Billy Hughes won in Richmond, Virginia then, on August 16, 1988, Hughes won again at Richmond. And, in 1989, Hughes was a two time winner during the ARDC Southern Tour. He captured feature wins on July 8 in Richmond and on July 29 in Hampton, Virginia.
As the 1998 race season approaches, ARDC Business Manager, Mike Roselli, is continuing negotiations with promoters on other race dates. Announcements on those events will be made public as they are contracted. However, it's for certain that Bryan Kobylarz won't mind if Roselli aggressively pursues more talks with promoters in the state of Virginia!
