ARDC HIRES ALSTON; EXCITING SCHEDULE SHAPING UP
Oley, PA - The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) is proud to announce the hiring of noted flagger and race official Warren Alston. Alston's duties will be that of Race Director/Chief Starter for the midget series that will celebrate its 67th birthday in 2006.
"We are very excited about Warren's decision to accept our offer and work with ARDC this year," exclaimed club president Ron Lauer. "He brings a very extensive and well-rounded knowledge of flagging and directing an event, and we know he'll do a great job. We've been looking for a race director for over a year now, and I'm confident that Warren is the man for the job."
Alston has flagged at many area speedways, with Bridgeport Speedway as his most recent stop. He has also worked as chief starter for the NASCAR Busch North Series (now called the Busch East Series), and has long been hailed as someone who takes charge of an event, yet is easy to work with as he carries out his duties.
As Alston and the ARDC teams prep for the new season, the schedule remains a work in progress. It is growing by the week, however, and promises to provide one of the most exciting slates of midget racing in recent years.
Susquehanna Speedway Park will be known as the club's home track in 2006, hosting a total of eight ARDC events including the season opener on Friday, April 14.
Other highlights on the current schedule include three dates at the Grandview Speedway as part of Bob Miller's 2006 Thunder on the Hill Series. The midgets' first date at Grandview will be Tuesday, May 16, sharing the card with the World of Outlaws Sprint Series as they did in 2005. ARDC returns to the Bechtelsville, PA oval on Tuesday, June 27, as part of the Central PA Sprint Speedweek show at Grandview.
Two dates have been confirmed at the Big Diamond Raceway on June 16 and July 21. Last August, the ARDC midgets drew rave reviews for the action they presented at the Minersville, PA track, and new promoters Buddy Biever, Barry Bashore, and Dave Dissinger acted quickly to book them for 2006.
Additional stops on the ' 06 calendar include return visits to Williams Grove Speedway, the Orange County Fair Speedway, New Egypt Speedway, and the highly anticipated Southern Swing in North Carolina. Once again this year, the midgets will compete at the Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC, then journey west for a race at the County Line Raceway in Rocky Mount. The Southern Swing will take place on Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24.
Negotiations are underway with several other race organizers as the schedule continues to grow.
The ARDC Board of Governors also wishes to thank all of the members who gave of their time at the recent car shows. The club had displays set up at Motorsports 2006 presented by VP Racing Fuels in Fort Washington, PA, and also at the Dirt Trackin' Show in York, PA. Special thanks go out to Lew Blair, the Martin Racing Team, Steve Lenig, and Dick Briggs, for providing their cars to enhance the ARDC display at these shows.
