Young Driver AMR qualifies third at Le Mans

The GTE-Am class in which Young Driver AMR competes at the Le Mans is the biggest and toughest class in the race with 19 entries.

The Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE of Kristian Poulsen, Nicki Thiim and David Heinemeier Hansson qualified third in the GTE-Am class of the 24 hours of Le Mans. During the qualifying session at Le Mans on Thursday evening, Nicki Thiim, who starts this weekend for the first time in the most important endurance race of the world, qualified the Aston Martin Racing entered Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE with a time of 3:55,944 Minutes. The GTE-Am class in which Young Driver AMR competes at the Le Mans is the biggest and toughest class in the race with 19 entries.

The practise and qualifying session went well for Young Driver AMR. Apart front a small off Heinemeier Hansson caused by a puncture in the first qualifying session Wednesday night, which cause damage to the front end of the Aston Martin, all three drivers worked through their program, concentrated on set-up work for the race and constantly improved the car.

“We are very happy so far, qualifying went really good for us”, Young Driver AMR team principal Jan Struve said. “Unfortunately Nicki´s first flying lap was destroyed when a car in front of him spun and on the two following laps he had traffic. Otherwise we might had a chance for second place. But the pace is good and all three drivers are very happy with the car. The car is very well prepared and running fine.”

Kristian Poulsen was also satisfied: “Our Qualifying session was really good. The car is very easy to drive and is quick, I’m confident for the race.”

“The qualifying was crazy, I have never seen so many cars in the walls and getting destroyed, so we are really happy that today’s session was trouble free for us”, David Heinemeier Hansson said. “It was my first qualifying in a closed top GT car at Le Mans and that was quite different to the open top prototype car I drove in the previous years. I still have to got used to it, due to many interruptions in the Qualifying session I couldn’t drive many laps, but the race is very long. The cars feels really good, I like the set up and I think we have a comfortable car we can drive a long time.”

Christoffer Nygaard, fourth driver of Young Driver AMR, will start from second position in the GTE-Am class in a sister car of Aston Martin Racing.

The 82. 24 hours of Le Mans start Saturday 15:00 hours. Eurosport and Eurosport 2 will broadcast the entire race live.
