WR reveals its new LMP2: the LMP2008.
At the beginning of 2007 December, WELTER RACING announced the arrival of its new sport-prototype LMP2, designed to run the ACO ruled championships. In partnership with Group SALINI, the team of Gerard Welter delivered its first brand new car, which will be equipped with a V8 Zytek 3,4 liters engine and a Ricardo gearbox.
Gerard Welter summarizes the philosophy which governed the design of the last-born car: "A simple and modern car, looking towards an ecological future, able to accept various power units."
A candidates' file for the next 24 hours of Le Mans was submitted, like how it is defined by Pascal Coquin, in charge of the 2008 WR Salini program: "We all are impatient to return at the 24 hours of Le Mans, race with which we have a long history and where we have this year some rightously ambitions, for in addition to reliability, we have from now on the performance with an engine which won the 2007 LMP2 category."
The Le Mans Series and its 6 ''1.000 kms'' races are of course with the program of the men of Thorigny: "We are engaged on a long-term program and Le Mans Series represents the opportunity of showing that our car is powerful on 1.000 kms. It was conceived to this purpose: that will pass initially by a phase of handling, which we hope for however shortest possible. Our ambition is to reach the podium in 2008, then playing at the top in 2009 !''
Partners of WR, the two brothers Philippe and Stephane SALINI will be the WR LMP2008 drivers, at the sides of Patrice ROUSSEL.
Combining experience and solidity, this line-up wants to be very homogeneous: Patrice ROUSSEL managed indeed his team-mates during 2 years in Endurance V of V within the EXTREME LIMITE team and will form thus with them a trio without surprises: "Philippe and Stephane are today on a level which will enable them to approach the season in serenity which looks very competitive. Our goal is to progress without shooting ahead, while cleverly playing our assets, reliability and speed''
According to Stephane SALINI, competing in LMP2 is a logical continuation: "During two years in V de V, we showed our qualities, in particular in the long races of 6h or 12 hours, with, as the same time, a fast and clean driving which is appropriate perfectly for the endurance. Our decision to join to the LMP2 was then maturely considered''
Philippe SALINI abounds in this direction: "To control a LMP2 does not represent an enormous jump. Obviously the power and the setup are different and they still pushed back limits but the first practices at the wheel of the 4 turbo cylinders confirm our capacity with being quickly on the good pace''
