Strong Le Mans Test for Team Modena

Team Modena conducted a successful test at Le Mans on Sunday (June 3rd), the annual test day at the famous French track providing the only opportunity for teams to run on the full circuit as used for the 24-Hour race later this month. After recording a top-ten finish in the gruelling race last year, hopes are high that the team can again prove what they are capable of in 2007.

The team ran with all three of the drivers who will contest the classic endurance race - Antonio Garcia, Christian Fittipaldi and Jos Menten - and ended the day eighth quickest in the LM GT1 category with their Aston Martin DBR9, without ever setting out to record an outright quick lap time, the day being devoted to race development of the car.

"We are very happy with how the test went," said Team Modena Sporting Director Rik Bryan. "We made significant progress with the car through the day, we are quicker than we were last year and are right in the GT1 mix. The works Corvettes are going to be difficult to beat, but we are closer to them than we were last year, which is good.

"The drivers are really happy that we got to such a good position with the car. Everyone worked hard to refine the set-up, and we feel we have a car we can really push with. We didn't have an opportunity to really go for a quick lap at the end of the day, but Antonio feels he could have gone quicker.

"We had a drama-free day, the team got on with what we needed to do with calm professionalism and we did everything we wanted to."

Menten is the newest recruit to the driving line-up, and the Dutchman summed up his first day at the circuit with the Aston Martin: "What a fantastic experience - I know the circuit somewhat from the computer, but when you're sitting in a race car everything does look quite different! I've been able to adapt pretty quickly to the car, and the collaboration with Antonio and Christian is running smoothly. I reckon we have one of the strongest driver teams in the LMGT1-category."
