Team Modena Add Menten to Le Mans Driver Line Up
Dutch racer Jos Menten will now join Team Modena's driver line-up for next month's Le Mans 24-Hour race, sharing the team's LM GT1 class Aston Martin DBR9 with Antonio Garcia and Christian Fittipaldi. The 26-year-old drove the Aston Martin for the first time yesterday (Wednesday May 23rd) at Snetterton, and immediately showed the pace the team are confident he will bring to their Le Mans campaign.
"We are pleased to have Jos with us for Le Mans," says Team Principal Graham Schultz. "From the test at Snetterton we now know he is not only a nice guy - but quick as well. He has lots of 24-hour race experience, and we now have three really strong drivers that we have a lot of confidence in and should be right on the pace at Le Mans."
"I was travelling on down to Bucharest for the third round of the FIA GT Championship when the Team Modena people contacted me," said Menten. "After that everything moved very rapidly, Graham Schultz and Rik Bryan [Team Modena Sporting Director] had prepared a great proposal for me. For me this is a dream come true.
"The Aston handles entirely differently to the Lamborghini I'm competing with in the FIA GT Championship. This is why I'm trying to get as many test kilometres under the belt as possible before we move on down to Le Mans. I have nothing but praise for the team, and the Aston really is a great car to go racing with."
The Snetterton test was a successful one for the Team Modena, the team completing 110km of flawless running with the Aston Martin. Both Menten and team regular Garcia drove the car, and the team are now deep in their preparations for the forthcoming Le Mans test day and then the race itself, where last year they recorded a superb top-ten finish.
