Tom Kristensen's victory in the 73rd Le Mans 24 Hours brings his total number of wins in this prestigious event to seven, including six wins in succession, after his victories in 1997 and 2000 to 2004.

"The first one is the most important as without the first one the rest would not have happened", he said.

Kristensen started this year's race in eighth place in car that was restricted and hence slower over a lap than the Pescarolo Sport Judds, but Kristensen and his team drove an extremely consistent race and were able to capitalise on the mistakes of other people and soon take the lead.

"You always believe there's a chance. You have to go in as confident as you can be but you must never think until the end, not even when you enter the last two hours, " advised Kristensen. "The car was fantasitcly made - thanks to Champion Racing and all the boys, and the Audi R8 never missed a beat."

Five of Kristensen's wins have been in Audi R8s, as well as one each with TWR and Bentley.
