The first of two qualifying sessions took place at Le Mans, France today in preparation for this weekend's 73rd 24 Heures du Mans. The RML MG Lola EX264 completed a number of trouble free laps at the hands of co-drivers Tommy Erdos, Mike Newton and Warren Hughes.

With rain steadily growing heavier during the afternoon the team decided to use the 7-9pm daylight session to carry out a full system check of the car as well as complete some wet weather running.

Warren was the only driver to complete laps in the first half of the session (7-9pm) during which time he tried two different tyre options and the team optimized its real time telemetry system to improve data transfer.

The session was interrupted by a red flag period when a similar Lola chassis crashed on the wet surface ending up on the outside of the barriers on the Mulsanne Straight. When the session resumed Warren completed another two laps before returning to the pits to prepare for the night session from 10-12pm.

The second half of qualifying continued in wet conditions and with no chance of significant lap time improvements the team concentrated on ensuring all three drivers completed their mandatory night time laps.

Although the running was limited in this first qualifying session all three drivers reported that the car was performing well with a good balance in the tricky conditions.

The second Qualifying Session takes place tomorrow (Thursday).
