Allan Simonsen, who was already quickest in the first qualifying session on Wednesday, improved his lap time in Thursday’s final session despite difficult conditions with two interruptions and many yellow flags, after cars spun or left the track.

The first Pole Position of Simonsen at Le Mans gives Young Driver AMR not only one extra points in the FIA World Endurance Championship, but also gives the "Danish Dynamite" trio a perfect start into their second common 24h of Le Mans.

"I’m super satisfied with qualifying and with the great performance of our three drivers and the entire team", Young Driver AMR´s Jan Struve said after Qualifying. “We had extremely difficult conditions during the qualifying session on Wednesday und Thursday with rain, drying track and many interruption due to red flags. But our drivers and the entire kept their cool and nobody put a foot wrong. So far, everything runs very much as planned for us".

Allan Simonsen: "To claim the Pole Position at Le Mans is really great. It was a very interesting session. It was wet at the beginning and only drying up at the end. Everybody needed a quick lap and it just worked out for us. It’s really good for the teams and for us. It’s important to start on Pole, because this gives us another point for the championship.

Out there it was completely carnage, you just had to close off from what was happening around you and drive. If you took notice of all the yellow flags and all what happened out there, you would have a nightmare."

Kristian Poulsen: "It was a real good qualifying session for us, even if the conditions where really difficult. We turned many laps and are very well prepared for the race. For the race, it’s really looking good."

Christoffer Nygaard: "We knew after the test day, that we would be very strong here. But the Pole Position is only a very small step on the way to our ultimate goal, to win the 24h of Le Mans. We have to stay focused and have to finish. It’s a very long race and it will be a hard challenge. But it looks promising for us and Allan put us with a real super lap on Pole Position."
