Plain sailing ahead for Strakka Racing at the Le Mans 24 Hours, thanks to Henri Lloyd – at least against the elements

It will be plain sailing for Strakka Racing at this weekend’s 80th Le Mans 24 Hours (16-17 June) – at least in its battle to keep warm, cool, dry and stylish, thanks to its new range of team clothing, supplied by maritime fashion brand Henri Lloyd.

It will be all hands on deck for the 20-crew members who are responsible for keeping the Silverstone-based team’s 200mph (321kph) Honda Performance Development ARX-03a sports prototype race car going in the world’s most gruelling motor race. In recent years the Le Mans 24 Hours has been subject to extreme heat and heavy showers of rain, and in all conditions Strakka Racing will now be immaculately dressed in the appropriate attire, thanks to off-the-peg garments from Henri Lloyd.

The team will be kitted out in a selection of products from the Henri Lloyd marine range, which has been designed primarily for water based sports, but whose technical qualities are extremely versatile and will protect the team from the elements and variable climates that they will encounter throughout the racing season. Their kit list includes the Octane WINDSTOPPER® jacket, vest and hat, which have been designed with fabric partners W L Gore & Associates. The Octane range offers a windproof, breathable and water resistant protective outer layer, whilst also being a stylish and smart team uniform.

The team are also wearing a selection of technical products from the Henri Lloyd Atmosphere 360 range, including the Element trousers and the Atmosphere 2 T’s. These items are vitally important during the events in warmer climates, as they offer an extremely breathable base layer whilst also providing UV protection from the sun’s rays.

Strakka Racing is fielding an all-British driver line up in the 56 car entry at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, with Nick Leventis (London), Danny Watts (Buckingham) and Jonny Kane (Thame) driving the team’s HPD ARX-03a – which proudly carries the Henri Lloyd logo.

Having won the LMP2 class and finished 5th overall in 2010, the aim this year is to challenge for the top ‘pure’ petrol engine car position as well as best privateer team. Indeed, after strong performances in the opening rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship (the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps), Strakka Racing is lying 2nd in the 2012 FIA Endurance Trophy for the best private LMP1 team. Le Mans is Round 3 of the series, and scores double points.

Piers Phillips, Team Principal and Technical Director: “We’re delighted with our new Henri Lloyd range of team clothing. It’s light, breathable, wind resistant, waterproof and stylish, so come rain or shine we’ll be well equipped and the best-dressed team in the Le Mans paddock.”
