Fifth place within reach for Team ORECA-Matmut…

Since the halfway point, Team ORECA-Matmut has been charging hard to climb back up the leaderboard. Eighth in the middle of the night, the #10 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP is currently fighting for fifth place. Nicolas Lapierre, Loïc Duval and Olivier Panis aren’t pulling any punches in order to stay in the top 5 behind the Audi R18 split between the three Peugeot 908. With a quickened pace, the team is gaining time by the minute on their direct competitors.

After taking the wheel in the 16th hour, Nicolas Lapierre completed a triple stint with orders to push, climbing to sixth place. “The car is handling quite well,” he declared after getting out of the car. “We are doing our maximum to reach this fifth place. There’s still time and anything can happen. The stint went well and I didn’t have any alarms. We must continue.”

Loïc Duval took over in the morning for three consecutive stints as well, finding the top 5. “The tyre usage window wasn’t easy,” he said. “At first, it was a bit cold for mediums. But later, the track temperature was too hot for softs…We are maintaining a good rhythm and we are in place to retake this fifth place that is ours. I simply hope that we won’t have any regrets at the end.”

The #10 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP had to cut the stint short due to a flat tyre (debris). Nicolas got back in the car for a double stint with fifth place in his sights.
