(19 June 2013, Le Mans, France) Hong Kong race driver, Darryl O’Young is at Le Mans this week and is prepared to take the challenge to the world’s best drivers at the World-Famous endurance race, celebrating its 90th year anniversary this weekend. (June 22-23) Driving the #55 INTERUSH AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia, he will be partnered with Italian drivers Lorenzo Case and Piergiuseppe Perazzini.
“With this being my second time in the event, everything isn’t so new to me anymore so I feel very prepared mentally and extremely focused on the task at hand. The team has prepared a very good car for us this weekend and I have gelled with the team quickly. Good preparation is key to success in endurance races, and with AF Corse having so much experience here at Le Mans, everything is very well organized by the team.” Said O’Young.
Practice begins today, (June 19) at 4pm CET followed by the first qualifying session in the evening. Rain has threatened the event, with forecasts calling for sporadic thunder showers throughout the week.
Commented the Chinese driver, “I have driven in the rain here at Le Mans in the past, and from what I remember, it is extremely difficult here in the wet due to the high speeds and low grip of the circuit. Our approach is to be slightly cautious in the rain during the practice and qualifying sessions, but we all know in order to be competitive, we can’t drive with too much caution. We will build up our speed throughout the sessions but it is clear that our focus will be 100% on the race as qualifying in a race like this is not as important as keeping the car in good condition.”
Practice and qualifying continues through to Thursday before a break on Friday for the drivers parade and pre-race ceremonies. The 90th Edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans starts on 22 June at 15:00hrs CET.
Darryl’s pursuit for success at the World’s biggest endurance race is made possible with the tremendous support of sponsors INTERUSH and LKM.
