The #2 Audi Sport North America R10 TDI has crashed while leading the Le Mans 24 Hours during the seventeenth hour.
Rinaldo Capello was driving the car on lap 263 when the left-rear wheel became detached from the car at Indianapolis and sent Capello spinning across the circuit into the tyre barrier on the inside of the circuit.
Capello was able to climb out of the car and walked away unaided. The marshals removed the car from the tyre wall and Capello walked around the car looking for a way to bring the car back to the garage.
Mike Rockenfeller crashed the #3 Audi Sport Team Joest R10 TDI at Tetre Rouge on lap 23 and retired from the race so Capello's accident leaves just one Audi R10 running in the race, at the hands of Frank Biela, which now leads the race.
The crash ends the possibility of Tom Kristensen achieving an eighth Le Mans victory in this race.
