After a remarkable Le Mans triumph, Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber are back in the states for another prestigious endurance race at Watkins Glen this weekend.
Bamber was the true rookie of the No. 19 Porsche team. Not only was Le Mans his first start in the race, but this is also his first year racing for the Porsche factory team on the TUDOR side.
'Shocked' by victory
"It was incredible to go to Le Mans with an LMP1 and as a rookie," Bamber told Motorsport.com "Porsche built an incredible race car with that 919 hybrid. To take it on an open road and go that fast on a straight - The whole week was just incredible. In the end, we were quite shocked, couldn't believe what we had managed."
As for working with a new co-driver who's full-time job lies over on the Formula 1 side, Bamber only had good things to say of Nico Hulkenberg. "It was good to race with an F1 guy. He is a fantastic driver. Everyone knows that he is a championship capable driver. We were all new to it and it was quite an experience, but he was excellent."
Next race on the radar
Looking forward after bagging a Le Mans, Bamber said he'd like a watch at Daytona and would also be interested in returning home for a shot at the Bathurst 1000. He took part in the Bathurst 12 Hours in 2014, finishing eighth. "To be honest, I would (like to run the Bathurst 1000). As a Kiwi, it's always nice to be able to do that race one day but it's not on the radar right now. One day though, I'd like to be able to sit on the grid and do that race."
