MOWLEM JOINS FORCES WITH CREATION AIM FOR LE MANS RACE
CHARVIL, England -- Johnny Mowlem and the Creation AIM racing team announced today that Mowlem will join the team for the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this summer.
The Creation AIM team fields two Creation racers powered by V10 Judd engines in the LMP1 category for the world's most powerful sports cars. It will be the sixth Le Mans appearance for Mowlem, who owns class victories in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and in the Mobil One 12 Hours of Sebring. He finished second in the GT class at Le Mans in 2000.
"It will be my sixth Le Mans, and I'm totally delighted for the opportunity that Mike Jankowski and the Creation AIM team have given me to compete again at what is any sports car driver's most important race of the year," said Mowlem.
Mowlem will sub for the injured Jamie Campbell-Walker. Mowlem's co-drivers will be Stuart Hall and Marc Goosens. Mowlem has raced in prototype cars in the past, most recently with the Zytek team in America.
"I want to acquaint myself with everyone in the team, as well as the car, and get myself dialled in during the test day and race week practice," Mowlem said. "Then, if we can have a clear run, there is no conceivable reason why we won't have a great result. But Le Mans is bigger than any one team, car or person, and if you don't treat her with respect, you'll get bitten, so I'm not making any foolish predictions!"
Mowlem will continue racing with the Corsa Motorsports team in the ALMS, but the American series is on hiatus during the run up to the Le Mans classic and the Corsa team is not making the trip across the Atlantic. "I want to thank Steve Pruitt (Corsa Motorsports team owner), for allowing me to switch teams for this one off event. Obviously my full time contract it with Steve, so it is very nice of him to be so supportive, and in fact he is coming over for the race to have a look at it all himself!"
Mowlem said he hopes Campbell-Walker, who was injured during qualifying at the Monza Le Mans Series race, will be able to come to Le Mans and help the team prepare for the race. The two are good friends.
