Flying Lizard Le Mans Eight Hour Update

June 16, 2007, 11:00 pm CET -- Le Mans, France -- With eight hours of the 24 Heures du Mans under their belts, the Flying Lizard team is now fifth in GT2 with Johannes van Overbeek currently in the car in his third stint. Just past the six-hour mark, Joerg was in P2, when he radioed in that the passenger door had blown out. He was able to pit quickly for a replacement door, and rejoined the field without losing a position.

A few minutes later, six and a half hours into the race, near the end of Joerg's double stint, he reported a strong vibration in the rear. Over the next few minutes, he reported increasing difficulty steering the car and called to the crew that there was definitely a problem. Still in P2, he pitted. The problem was immediately apparent: the rear wing had collapsed, making it extremely difficult to control the car.

During the short pit stop, Seth Neiman took the wheel during the driver change for his second stint. The crew sent Seth back out with the collapsed rear wing, needing additional time to prepare for a rear wing change. Under full course yellow for a prototype stopped on course, Seth pitted again and the crew did phase one of the repair -- removing the rear wing and sending Seth out again with no wing. He was able to get out ahead of the pace car, and therefore did not lose a position. On the subsequent pit stop, still under yellow, the crew was able to replace the wing and set it. Unfortunately, the No. 80 was unable to make it out before the next pace car, which pushed the car back to sixth position. After Seth's stint, as of 11:00 pm CET, Johannes is now in the car, in fifth. Sixteen hours to go!
