Jamie Davies pulled out a twenty second-three lead over the first hour of the 24 Heures du Mans. The Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx made a good pit stop and took advantage as Allan McNish in the sister car dropped back by around one to two seconds per lap.
The pitstops started on round eight and the lead Audi of Davies pitted on lap ten for fuel and took just 45 seconds. On the next lap McNish and Lehto pitted at the same down the far end of the pitlane. McNish's stop was four seconds quicker and he rejoined twelve seconds behind the leader Davies but McNish was running at a slightly slower pace than before his stop.
Tim Sugden picked up a puncture on lap ten in his Thierry Perrier Porsche 911 GT3 RS car and dropped back from the third place in the LM GT class that he was holding at the time. Ron Fellows had a moment soon after the Mulsanne straight, locking brakes and coming to a rest lightly against the tyre wall - he was able to rejoin but had to pit so that the team could check the front of his Corvette Racing C5-R
Capello, running low down the field after his early spin, lost thirty seconds during his pit stop as the team changed a component on his car and he was running in thirteenth place at the end of the first hour, one lap behind the leader.
Jorg Bergmeister had built out a 1 minute lead at the head of the GT class in the Petersen/White Lightening Porsche 911 GT3 RSR over Mike Rockenfeller (Orbit Racing) with Romain Dumas (Freisinger Motorsport) moving up to third place after Sugden's puncture.
