Le Mans, France, the Audi Sport R8's maintain the lead and second place, one lap in front of the third place Panoz, into the fourth hour at Le Mans.

On lap 34 the Audi's pitted leaving Alboreto in the car for an incredible four stints for gas only. Also pitting was the number nine car of McNish, taking on fuel, tires and putting Stephane Ortelli in the car.

Michlele Alboreto doing yo-mans work for the Audi team explained his drive, "I was very comfortable in the car. I wasn't using up the tires so I decided to stay in. The car is very comfortable to drive."

On lap 36 Frank Beila pitted the number eight Audi for fuel, tires with Tom Kristensen taking over. Soon after on lap 39 two Porsche's tangled in Tetre Rouge, bringing the Pace Car on to the track for the second time.

Later on lap 54, Stephane Ortelli driving the number nine car spun and then continued, pitting one lap later for tires and fuel.
