SOUTHWEST REGIONAL CUP COMES TO IRON ROCK RACEWAY
Two-day event expected to draw 100 race teams
May 3, 2005 AUSTIN, TX May 7 and 8, Iron Rock Raceway will host the track's first regional karting race, the World Karting Association's (WKA) Southwest Regional Cup. Iron Rock expects about 100 race teams to compete in this, the third weekend of the series, which it shares with two other tracks.
The competition will include 18 kart classes, including 125cc shifter karts, capable of 0-to-90 acceleration in five seconds and speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. In that class, Chris Jackson of Oklahoma, Collin Lynn of Dallas and Houston's Alexander "Xan" Rose are the ones to watch. Sixteen-year-old Rose took second place in the Red Bull Drivers Search last weekend. Austin's Tim Self is considered a serious contender for first in TAG Masters against Michael Brookes, national TAG Master champion.
The competition will consist of two one-off races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Each day, practice sessions will begin at 8:10 a.m. followed by qualifying. Pre-finals will begin approximately noon, and the Main Events will begin approximately 3 p.m. and conclude approximately 5:00.
The 2005 Southwest Regional Cup series consists of six race weekends. Two are held at Iron Rock, two at Oklahoma Motorsports Complex in Norman, Oklahoma and two at North Texas Kartway in Denton, Texas. In addition to the May races, Iron Rock will host the series finals on October 1 and 2.
"We're looking forward to an exceptional group of contenders," said Charlie Swayne, Iron Rock's General Manager. "It should be an exciting show."
