Snap-on Stars of Karting Awards More Than $17,000 in Cash and Prizes in Opening Weekend

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WA - (March 13, 2009) - The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series awarded more than $17,000 in cash and prizes at this past weekend's East division opening round at Ocala Gran Prix. With $5000.00 in cash and more than $10,000 in gift certificates and vouchers, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series is on its way to awarding a total payout in excess of $115,000 with several prize funds still in the works.

jurca1 Photo: Todd McCall - OTP.ca A Thursday night cookout was organized by the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series that created a sense of calm before the race weekend as drivers, crew and families were treated to hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, potato salad that was all prepared by the Stars of Karting crew. Also available at the cookout were adult beverages provided by eKartingNews.com's Rob Howden.

With a great weekend of racing action, Italian Motors displayed excellent results by taking victories with Hayden Duerson in KZ2, David Jurca in Senior National and Don McGregor TaG ICC. All three drivers did an outstanding job and were at the front of the pack all weekend long. With consistent finishes, fast laps and a little luck, all three drivers stood atop the podium claiming cash awards and Snap-on gift certificates.

Junior SSC East / CRG pilot Phil De La O had a career Stars of Karting weekend as he took the victories in both the KF3 and Junior National classes. As the driver to beat all weekend long, De La O scored maximum points in both divisions by taking the win as well as the pole position on Friday evening.

Racing out of the Ocala Gran Prix operation, Tony Kart driver Cody Hodgson outran some of the country's top drivers to score the KF2 victory. Hodgson progressed through the heat races nicely and scored his maiden Stars of Karting victory ahead of fellow Tony Kart pilot Alex Speed.

The young and talented Santino Ferrucci was on fire in the Cadet field and was another driver that was on everyone's stop watch all weekend long. With the classic wheel-to-wheel action that the Cadet class provides, Ferrucci did exactly what was needed to put him in the right place at the right time to take another victory.

"On behalf of myself and the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series, we would like to congratulate all winners on the weekend as we look forward to Sonoma," stated Series President Alan Rudolph. "Also, I would like to thank everyone for a great weekend of racing where there was great action and not one red flag."

Taking home the Bondurant Advanced Karting School award was Junior National tenth place finisher Austin Self. Though Self came to Ocala looking for a win, the junior pilot overcame some bad luck to score a top ten result and finished in the right spot to claim the award. The Bondurant One Day Advanced Karting course is valued at $1125.00.

On Track Promotions (OTP) provided each and every winner with a $500.00 voucher towards website design work offered by OTP. Receiving these awards were the class winners from each and every division in competition.

"I am happy that On Track Promotions had added to its products and services line and I look forward to building great looking sites for the karting community," stated OTP owner Todd McCall. "I will personally be in contact with each and every winner to setup a new or redesign an existing website within the week."

Though Race Tech Development gift certificate vouchers were not ready in time, all podium finishers will receive RTD money for products and services offered by the new company.
