Stars of Karting Announces Expanded 2009 Weekend Format

The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series is excited to announce their 2009 event weekend format. The format for this coming National Championship has been enhanced to increase track time for each competitor, while allowing for maximum competitive elements each event weekend.

The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will now allow Thursday practice to take place hosted by the facility. Thursday practice will increase track time for series competitors and teams as well as limit travel costs from testing the weekend prior to the event. Thursday practice will be unofficial and pre-tech will need to be completed before Friday at noon.

Friday's of event weekends will now be reserved for a minimum of three Practice sessions as well as two Qualifying Practice sessions that will take place later in the day. The Qualifying Practice sessions provide time trial drama as drivers can choose to go out in one or both of the Qualifying Practice sessions and can choose to manage the permissible amount of tires as they see fit. With the Friday afternoon qualifying format, all competitors' karts must go through pre-technical inspection before the start of these sessions.

Each and every Snap-on Stars of Karting Series category will compete in three heat races on Saturday to determine starting positions for the final phase beginning with the Pre-Final on Sunday morning. Heat race starting positions will be determined by the Qualifying Practice that takes place on Friday afternoon. Heat races will be just as important as in the past as they will set the grid for Sunday morning Pre-Final events.

For 2009, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series has changed the race format from two Finals to a Pre-Final and Final format, where drivers will receive points for their results in both their participation in the Pre-Final as well as the main event. With one third of the points awarded in the Pre-Final, drivers will look to fight for each and every position to garner as many points towards their chase for the national title. With only one main event, providing two thirds of the total points for the weekend, the winner of the final will be deemed the overall winner of the event weekend.

Another benefit for the drivers in 2009 is the starting positions in the Final will be determined by the results from the Pre-Final. Trying to make a fair and level playing field for all competitors, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series listened to teams and drivers from our 2008 championship and decided to make this rule change allowing competitors to move forward in the Pre-Final for a better starting position in the main event

Also new for 2009, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series is awarding bonus points for the driver in each category who is classified first in Qualifying Practice. Also, bonus points will be awarded for the driver in each category who gains the most positions from Qualifying Practice through the Final.

Snap-on Stars of Karting Series officials listened to input from the competitors throughout the 2008 competition year and have made the changes for 2009 to enhance the experience of each competitor through earlier practice schedules , increased track time, increased heats and awards for performance throughout the event.
