Snap-on Stars of Karting Announces 2009 KZ2 (ICC) Class

Over the next week, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will continue to release their 2009 national championship class structure one by one. Already announced is the Cadet and Stars National Junior classes. The Snap-on Stars of Karting will continue to release class information and rule changes that pertain to those classes announced. Any person, driver or team with questions in regards to the '09 class structure is asked to contact Stars of Karting via e-mail to Media@StarsOfKarting.com

The ultra competitive Intercontinental C (ICC) division will return to the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series national championship in 2009 but will undergo minor changes for the upcoming season. The most notable change will be the name of the class as the shifter division will now be known as KZ2.

The majority of the rules package for KZ2 will remain unchanged from 2008 competition. The full length CIK approved rear bumper design will be mandatory for the KZ2 division keeping up with safety concerns around the world of motorsports. The CIK rear bumper has proven to help reduce wheel-to-wheel contact and improve safety for the class. With the addition of the rear protective device, the KZ2 class will now have a minimum weight of 385 Lbs.

Along with the above mentioned weight change, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will extend the homologation validity of all CIK08 chassis, brakes, bumpers and bodywork throughout the 2009 racing season. KZ2 will retain full homologation requirements but the extension will allow all shifter competitors to come and compete on the national level without the added change over cost.

The age for the KZ2 category shall be 15 years of age and older. A driver's actual age as of December 20, 2008 shall establish his/her "competition age" for the 2009 competition year. Drivers under the required minimum age for a category may start the 2009 competition year provided they have met the age requirement for the category they are participating i n on or before July 1, 2009.

Once a driver advances to and competes in the next higher age category in any verifiable National karting competition series, tour or race, at any level, from January 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009, he/she must continue to compete at that age category in Snap-on Stars of Karting competition, and may no longer compete at the lower age category under pain of penalty.

Drivers competing in the KZ2 category will hold an A level license. With this license, they are considered some of the best and most highest rank drivers that North America has to offer. Drivers holding an A level license competing in the KZ2 division will not be allowed to participate in a second class within the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series.

The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will continue to announce their 2009 class structure in the coming week. Stay tuned to www.StarsOfKarting.com for up-to-date news and information regarding the 2009 competition season.
