Snap-on Stars of Karting Confirms 2009 JICA Class Details

The ultra competitive action from the Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) class will once again return to the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series in 2009 with minor changes from the 2008 championship. There will be no technical changes made in the JICA class from the 2008 national championship as the weight will remain at 315lbs and the use of the CIK rear bumper will remain mandatory. Other changes in the JICA class can be seen in event weekend proceedings and drivers licensing criteria.

Support for the Stars of Karting JICA program remains high and consistent with statements dating to 2006, we remain focused on the announced intercontinental category. At that time, with the best interest of the sport in mind, the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series made the advance decision to continue with the JICA program, strengthening the partnership with its supporters and instilling stability. No change in that tact is foreseen for 2009.

The age for the JICA category shall be 12 to 15 years of age only. A driver's actual age as of December 20, 2008 shall establish his/her "competition age" for the 2009 competition year. Drivers under the required minimum age for a category may start the 2009 competition year provided they have met the age requirement for the category they are participating in on or before July 1, 2009.

Drivers wishing to advance to a more senior category representing the next higher age requirement from their current category may do so provided they have met the age requirement for the next higher category on or before July 1, 2009. If a driver's birthday occurs after July 1, 2009, they may advance to the next higher age requirement, on or after their birthday that qualifies them to advance to the next higher age requirement.

Once a driver advances to and competes in the next higher age category in any verifiable National karting competition series, tour or race, at any level, from January 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009, he/she must contin ue to compete at that age category in Snap-on Stars of Karting competition, and may no longer compete at the lower age category under pain of penalty.

Drivers competing in the JICA category will also be permitted to compete in other junior level categories with the age restrictions of 12 - 15 years old in 2009 Stars of Karting competition.

Also, now available on the Stars of Karting website are 2009 Membership and Event forms. Drivers competing in the '08 National Championship that wish to retain their competition number must register with the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series by January 31, 2009. Drivers and teams looking to receive a discount on registration can do so by registering for the complete series.

The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will continue to announce their 2009 class structure in the coming week.
