Tribeca Film Festival To Debut Karting Documentary Following Three Of WKA's Speedway Pavement Drivers

03.18.2009 -- One of film's most prestigious festivals will be debuting a karting documentary titled, Racing Dreams, during the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival in New York the week of April 22 -- May 3, 2009. This is a film by Academy Award Nominee, Marshall Curry, that focuses on Joshua Hobson, Annabeth Barnes, and Brandon Warren; all competitors of the World Karting Association's Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series. The film transmits through these three personal stories the wonderful spirit of the championship, the intensity and hard work of the kids, the dedication of their families, and more.

Josh Hobson was about 12 years old at the start of filming. "It started out at the end of the 2006 season. They came to our season finale race at Lowe's [Motor Speedway] and told us they'd like to come back next year to film a documentary about me," began the young driver. "It definitely was not what I expected. I mean, it was different, but I guess I didn't know what to expect," commented Josh. "It really represents karting in a good manner. I'm really interested to see what the final product will be to others and what other people will think of the film."

Annabeth Barnes was in her rookie year in the Pavement Series when the film began. "They started filming about two years ago. They would film me around the house, at school and at the races. At first it was kind of awkward, but I got used to it after a while." Annabeth seemed to be pleased with the movie as well, "It really shows how racing affects our lives and all the sacrifices that we all have to make everyday."

Brandon Warren was the third driver to be documented in the film and was about 12 years old at the time of filming. The crew also filmed the everyday life and the racing life of Brandon and his family, showing the world what goes on behind the scenes in the kart racing industry.

The following is a synopsis of the film sent by the Tribeca Film Festival - Racing Dreams, directed by Marshall Curry. (USA) -- World Premiere.
