WKA Announces New Tire Rule For Speedway Dirt Series

02.06.2009 - As competitors prepare for the upcoming Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series season opener March 27-29 at Hanging Rock Kartway in Kershaw, South Carolina, there will be yet another battle line drawn in the competition category.

Following one of the closest and most dramatic finishes in WKA history, the battle for the top chassis manufacturer was decided by a mere 1 victory, with the top 4 chassis manufacturers separated by just 4 wins. This battle will now spill over into the tire category in 2009.

After several weeks of negotiations, the 2009 tire rule will be opened up to no less than 6 major companies; Maxxis, Vega, Firestone, Burris, Dunlop, and Hoosier. These 6 companies will have the opportunity to vie for supremacy on the Speedway Dirt Series, with the eventual champion being recognized at the year end awards banquet in similar fashion as the top chassis manufacturer, receiving the award of excellence as the top tire manufacturer for 2009.

In an effort to maintain an accurate scorecard for the tire manufacturers, the right side tires of the top three finishers will be checked and recorded in post race tech at each event, with a running scorecard kept to determine the eventual champion.
