WKA Announces 2009 Class Structure And Revised Class Names

10.23.2008 -- Each year WKA reviews the classes run in each racing division to identify opportunities to add new, potentially more popular classes and make room for them in the schedule by combining or deleting old classes with low participation. This year WKA has also changed some class names to make them shorter, more consistent and more descriptive. To achieve this, WKA will use the same words in the same way in every class name.

Here are the standard definitions for all classes in the sprint and speedway divisions.
Sportsman -- 8 to 12
Sportsman 1 -- 8 & 10
Sportsman 2 -- 10 & 12
Junior -- 12 to 15
Masters - 35 and over classes

If a class does not include one of these words, it is for drivers 15 and up (unless otherwise designated in the Tech Manual). The term "Senior" will no longer be uses.

Following is a list of the 2008 and 2009 classes.

Tire Update For LMS Gold Cup

10.23.2008 - As the season winds down on the Horstman Gold Cup Series on Oct 31-Nov 2 at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the GT Machine Grand Nationals, WKA has provided an update for those who may have questions regarding tires for the season finale.

Drivers utilizing the Dunlop 4.50 tire will be required to run the DDM Brand. The DCM Brand will still be in place for those competitors running the Dunlop 6.00 tire. Senior Class drivers will still be running the Firestone YFA'S, while the World Formula Class will continue to utilize the Bridgestone YHC Brand.

A reminder that fuel tickets will need to be purchased at registration for $15 per class, covering the qualifying run, the heat race, and the main. For drivers in the World Formula Class, fuel will be made available at the event.

Activities for the GT Machine Grand Nationals get underway with a full day of practice on Friday October 31st from 8:30am-5pm. The 2008 National championships will be decided with two full days of racing Saturday at Sunday, beginning with practice each day at 8am. For more information regarding pre entries, contact Marie Borsuk at the WKA Office at (704) 455-1606, extension 11.

Friday Practice Discontinued For 2009 Dirt Series

10.23.2008 - In a continuing effort to cut down on costs across the board in the face of tough economic times, officials with the World Karting Association, in accordance with track operators, have elected to discontinue the Friday practice for the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series.

For 2009, competitors will have the luxury of keeping kids in school 1 more day, as well as save on tight vacation time by making their way to the track on Friday instead of Thursday. The move also saves the tracks one less day of very expensive maintenance. Additionally, a third round of practice will be added to the race day mornings Saturday and Sunday.

While the tentative dates for 2009 have been posted, WKA is continuing to move forward with their plans to fill those dates with top-notch venues as always.
