R.L.V. Addresses Need For Low Cost Engine Package
05.23.08 - To address an industry need for a low-cost entry level engine package for the hobby/club consumer, R.L.V. Tuned Exhaust, Inc., recently announced their distributorship of the PRD Fireball 125cc TaG engine.
Managing director Art Verlengiere of the Santa Maria, Calif., based company, has more than 25 years experience in karting contends that growth in karting is dependent on eliminating the high costs afflicting the entry-level enthusiast.
Designed by the renowned Australian, Peter R. Dell of Pro Racing Design Company, Ltd., the PRD Fireball is manufactured under the engineer's direct scrutiny at his Taipei, Taiwan factory. The engine, initially introduced in 2004, has undergone key improvements in clutch design, new rod, coated piston, CNC machined liner, new head, an improved radiator and mounting hardware, new battery mount and starter relay. Upgraded carbon fiber reeds are also now available and a 15tooth driver for road racing applications will be available in the near future.
"The PRD 125cc TaG is our commitment to bring an affordable package to the United States but our vision at R.L.V. extends beyond a low-cost alternative. Currently, the engine has been homologated and approved under IKF, WKA and TAG USA competition in the touch and go class structure, but our vision is to foster a pure, single-engine class with rules that insure competitive levels, longevity, and affordability coupled with a claiming rule that really makes sense," Verlengiere explained. "Historically, the successful classes in karting have been single-engine classes. When engines are mixed, the structure dissipates and consumers end up discouraged," he added.
