Milford Street Race scheduled for first weekend in October
MILFORD, DE-The 2003 Milford Street Race Planning Committee announced that the 11th Annual Milford Grand Prix Black Top Kart Race presented by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Milford will be held October 3-5.
Competitors can register and begin pit parking Friday evening. Practice will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with heat races to follow.
Features will be raced that Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
Last year's race saw a record number of entries from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina and Canada competing on a 1/2-mile course thorough the streets of Milford, DE in 15 classes including a 125cc Shifter division which had the sport's top competitors battling side-by-side at nearly 70 miles per hour. Spectators will get to see some of the nations top two and four-cycle competitors who tour nationally with the World Karting Association's Horstman Gold Cup Series and George Kugler Manufacturer's Cup Series presented by Bridgestone. They will be joined by competitors from the WKA Delaware Dirt Divisional Series and other local dirt venues for whom this is their annual attempt at asphalt competition.
Along with classes that have competed in past Milford Street Races the committee also announced they will added the new Briggs & Stratton Animal class to the lineup.
All top five-feature race finishers will receive a trophy and race winners will also get prizes from the karting industry. The winner of the Rodney J. Harrington Memorial Pro Race will pocket $500.
