Michael Davis, Jr., Novelty, Ohio, died due to injuries sustained in a racing accident at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, December 30.

Michael Jr. was competing in the annual WKA / Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series World Championships at Daytona on the infield road course when his kart suddenly veered sideways and into the wall. The on-site Daytona medical team transported the teenager to Halifax Medical Center. The exact time, cause or circumstances of his death are irrelevant at this time.

The 17-year-old Michael Jr. was following in the footsteps of his father, Michael Sr. and young Michael had recently won the PP Can Lite class for the 2001 Enduro series.

The World Karting Association has released the following statement:

"It is with utmost sorrow, we must announce that Michael Davis, Jr of Ohio passed away due to injuries sustained in a racing accident at Daytona International Speedway today. Our sincere condolences goes out to Michael Sr and the entire Davis family. May God look over you during this terrible time. Arrangements will be posted on the WKA and related websites as soon as they are available."
