Charlotte, NC - The traditional WKA Gold Cup Grand Nationals held on Thanksgiving weekend was to be a challenge for 11 year old racer Evan Keresi of Dallas, NC. Entering the final race for the 2000 season and in 2nd place in points, he needed to score a victory to become the Jr. Sportsman season points champion.

The final race of the season was being held at Lowe's Motor Speedway, a track he is very familiar with. Evan set the pace quickly in qualifying, taking the number one spot, nearly 3/4 of a second faster than the 2nd place qualifier.

With a freshly prepared Robinson Speed Shop motor, he went on to lead the field in the heat race and stretched his lead over 5 seconds in the qualifying race.

Later in the day, with backing from Torco Racing Oils and SMC Clutches, Evan once again lead the field in the final and broke out to an early lead, where he could keep an eye on the field behind him and cruised on to taking the checkered flag for his first grand national victory beating 30 other entries and winning the 2000 season points championship.

The G-Man Kartworks driver also had to say, "This was the most important race of my racing experience and I'm very happy to have attained this goal with the help of all who have supported me this year."

Evan will be moving up to the Jr. 2 class in 2001 and looks forward to new challenges and competition. The World Karting Association awards banquet will be held along with Kartfest 2001 in Hickory, NC January 26-28, 2001.
