Heavlow Notches More Wins-Undefeated in Maryland Divisional Kart Races
CHESTERTOWN, MD. -- Three-time World Karting Association Horstman Gold Cup national champion Jimmy Heavlow added another notch to his 2007 gun belt string of victory by remaining undefeated in the Maryland Sprint Divisional series.
Heavlow is unbeaten in the six-race series for Briggs Jr. Restricted Lite and Heavy classes after the season-opening Sandy Hook Speedway event, where he swept feature races both days in both classes. In one of his heat races he started last and went on to win the heat, then all three remaining heats and all four features to sweep the highly competitive class.
"I won by like half a straight in every race," said Heavlow. "We were just flying. The kart was set up really good," he added. The fourteen- year-old commented that the track is his favorite, because it is only about fifteen minutes from home and he can sleep in his own bed.
With a good start on the state divisional championship in his first season in the classes, Heavlow can drop one finish out of the six races in the season, counting only the top five finishes toward a divisional crown. In WKA, divisional crowns can be applied toward a National points total. Some of Heavlow's competitors have been racing in the class more than one season, making his success even more impressive.
Heavlow's total of race wins in Maryland Sprint Divisional competition has reached 29, giving him a strong shot at the class title in his first season of class competition.
After testing his Legends car in preparation for Lowe's Motor Speedway's Summer Shootout, his next race is slated to be another club race at the local track, then start the Summer Shootout series of races.
