TAYLOR MIINCH CLAIMS PODIUM AT NEW CASTLE MOTROSPORTS PARK
"California pilot scores solid result in East vs. West Showdown"
New Castle, Indiana (June 3, 2008) --Team Top Kart USA driver Taylor Miinch scored another strong run this weekend at the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar series Mazda Race of the Americas at the New Castle Motorsports Park facility in New Castle, Indiana. Miinch claimed the third step on the podium in the first final before being involved in a mid-race incident in final two.
After Friday's official timed sessions, Taylor Miinch would be just inside the top ten. Looking to improve on that and make a run for the pole on Saturday morning, Miinch, lead tuner, Josh Huff, and his crew worked tirelessly on Friday evening to improve the speed of his Team Top Kart USA entry.
Looking to take the Gatorz Pole Position, Miinch started his session off nicely and was near the top of the speed charts. With almost a thousand foot back straight where drafting is a major key to being upfront, Miinch was unable to find a partner and ended up just outside the top five in the eighth position.
With the heat race flight system in effect, Miinch would have to battle his way through the heats to setup a solid starting position for the final. Heat one went well for the Californian as he claimed the fourth position, but heat race two did not go as planned as Miinch would be involved in a turn one crash that would see several top drivers forced to retire.
"The start of the second heat race was very tough," explained Taylor Miinch of Alpine, CA after being taken out in the first corner. "I was hit from behind and in the side and had nowhere to go. The kart sustained a lot of damage but we will be back to fight for the win tomorrow."
Final one was very successful for Miinch as he advanced forward from his 12th place starting position to finish on the podium. Looking like a seasoned veteran, Miinch battled hard and passed kart after kart with his Hi-Rev horsepower to run inside the top five. In the final few circuits, the Team top Kart USA driver made a few more passes to move into the top three and claim a solid podium result.
Final two would not have the same success for Miinch. The talented junior was running well inside the top ten and looked as if he would be in the hunt for another top five before being taken out by a fellow competitor in the back section of the course. Miinch would be relegated down the running order and outside the top twenty before battling hard to move back forward to finish 16th.
Miinchcurrently sits in fifth in standings in the Stars of Karting JICA West Series and 11th in the East Division after a rough start in Ocala, Florida. Look for him to rebound as he heads to USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI July 11-13 for the next East event.
