TEAM BIREL DRIVER TAYLOR MIINCH PREPARED FOR STARS EAST APPEARANCE
ALPINE, California (6 July 2006) -- Team BIREL driver Taylor Miinch has entered his No. 320 BIREL / High-Rev Parilla in this weekend's Eastern Division Snap-On Stars of Karting presented by the IRL races at Lowe's Motor Speedway July 8-9.
This weekend's Stars of Karting (SOK) races will take place on the newly repaved permanent .67-mile asphalt karting circuit in the infield of the celebrated Charlotte, N.C. track, recently hosting the NASCAR Nextel All Star Challenge and Coca-Cola 600 races in May.
Considered an off weekend from his regular IKF (International Karting Federation) and SOK West Division race schedule, Miinch looks to gain additional experience and exposure that the popular Stars of Karting races give its competitors. "We are geared up for this weekend's race and Taylor has come a long way since his first races in the JICA division," said Taylor's dad, Chuck Miinch.
Crew chief, Dave Thompson of Dave's Performance Karting Shop (BIREL's No.1 dealer in the USA) returns as Miinch's key tuner and driver coach for the Charlotte race. "I think Taylor has a great chance this weekend. I was there earlier in the year and with the help of the BIREL factory tuners and Team MRP, we will have a great team of drivers this weekend," quoted Thompson. Miinch switched to BIREL in January 2005 and has been one of a handful of key drivers for the BIREL factory team.
Miinch, soon to be 12 and starting seventh grade this fall, made his Stars of Karting JICA (Junior Intercontinental A) Division debut in March with an outstanding first-time JICA qualifying effort at the "Mini Cooper Race of the Americas" in Norman, OK. Miinch was second fastest qualifier at 57.10, missing the pole by three-tenths. All five main events ran in full wet conditions with JICA the second most popular class listing more than 55 entries. Miinch was one of only two BIREL karts in the top-15 with Miinch finishing 13th.
Miinch of Alpine, CA later posted his best SOK JICA finish this year with a podium third place at P1 Kart Circuit in Tucson, AZ April 23.
After two SOK West Division races, Miinch's No. 320 is setting in eighth in the West Standings and the only BIREL driver in the top-ten, with only one remaining race at Infineon Raceway (Sonoma, CA) August 19-20.
