STARS OF KARTING ANNOUNCES STARS TAG CLASS, TEST PLANS

Seattle , WA (January 31, 2008) - Snap-on Stars of Karting announced today the cancellation of the category formerly known as Spec Racer. The class will be reorganized and reintroduced as Stars TaG immediately. The class will compete in full program for the 2008 season. Parties interested in competing in the 2008 Stars of Karting series in this category are advised of imminent action with regards to the rules structure.

Stars suspended this class on January 22 in effort to ease a critical market destabilization. Performances of the Vortex RoK TT engine package -- reportedly under Stars rules --by other sanctions had stirred debate to fever pitch. Stars officials felt compelled to instill some calm into the situation and present an insightful focus for the category.

The open use of the trade name 'Spec Racer' and 'Stars of Karting' by unassociated organizers has brought to light the premise that Stars of Karting rules are only valid when conducted in whole - with parc ferme controls, equipment usage and engine sealing protocols and full spectrum grid controls. If only one part is missing, weakness replaces strength and program integrity suffers immediately. The results are immediately tainted.

Great lengths were taken last year to introduce the Vortex engine into Stars competitions. Full disassembly of ten engines, two track tests and a season of actual race data with close monitoring of engine development showed superlative equity on track and on the stopwatch. It is on these results, under close control of experiment, that we rely. Under other sanction, there is simply too much variable to make a properly based, scientific judgment and we refuse to react to emotion.

Nevertheless, if the engine has experienced a meteoric development cycle amongst tuners since it left our steward last fall, we wish to provide our current racers with the comfort of assurance and we will gather hard power data from all three engines in current tune simultaneously in coming weeks. Based on these results and concurrent with this testing, any necessary adjustments to level performance will be affected by the engine personnel and series representatives onsite at the testing.

The control engines used in the testing will be archived and utilized as necessary in the future for comparison data. Rules will be structured that penalize development outside of a defined parameter. They will be released anew as Stars TaG class rules by March 5. They will be protected from use by unauthorized parties. Interested parties should watch the series website at www.starsofkarting.com for any possible reports on progress or results.
