Tomas Scheckter the Latest IndyCar Star Slated for the All Stars Karting Classic
Seattle , WA -- (October 30, 2006) : IndyCar standout Tomas Scheckter is the latest in a long line of motorsports stars to announce his participation in the All-Stars Karting Classic event at the PRI Show on the evening of Thursday, December 14. Scheckter, the son of 1979 Formula One World Champion Jody, spent 2006 driving for Vision Racing in the Indy Racing League. Tomas began his racing career in karts and was the 1995 South African Karting Champion before graduating to formula car racing in South Africa and Europe.
He will be driving a full works supported First Kart. "I am really looking forward to working with First Kart and everyone there. First Kart has a proven record of success. I am also very excited about joining the Stars of Karting Series. The series has a lot of good young talented drivers, the competition should be quite good. I am also hopeful for a good turnout, over 42,000 people attend the PRI show and hopefully they will all stop by to see the race."
The South African has previously won races with Panther Racing and Team Cheever in the IRL as well as a stint as Jaguar's Formula One test driver. Scheckter adds his name to a long list of drivers from a variety of motorsports that will participate in the Masters Division at the event including Marco Andretti (IRL), Bryan Herta (IRL), Ron Capps (NHRA), Doug Herbert (NHRA), Wayne Taylor (Grand-Am), and Memo Gidley (Grand-Am). The top drivers from the Karting division of the event will advance to take on the Masters drivers in the Final race of the evening.
Snap-on Stars of Karting co-owner Bryan Herta can't wait to see the South African in action in Orlando, "Tomas is always one of the most aggressive guys on the track no matter where we go to and I don't expect anything to change in Orlando. I know he has a lot of experience in a kart and I expect him to be one of the top competitors in the event."
The race will be filmed for two separate one-hour broadcasts on the Versus Network (OLN) and feature the SSC East, First Kart North America, Trackmagic, Tony Kart USA, Sodi Racing USA, Grand Products-Top Kart, Champion Racing-Intrepid teams from the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL. The racers will utilize karts with the popular 125-cc electric start spec engines that have proliferated the marketplace in recent years. Series title sponsor Snap-on Tools has also stepped up to support the event on multiple levels as have Douglas Wheels and Alpinestars.
Racing action will start at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 14 on a temporary track constructed adjacent to the Convention Center. Show attendees will be able to progress straight from the PRI Trade Show's Happy Hour directly out to the racing action. Admission will be free to anyone with a PRI Trade Show badge.
