Californian to compete in final Western Division JICA round this weekend at Moran

BEAUMONT, CA - (September 10) - Young karting star Gustavo Menezes will be looking to bounce back in his attempt at earning the Snap-on Stars of Karting Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) national championship as the third and final Western Division event of the year is set for this coming weekend (September 14-16) at Moran Raceway in Beaumont, CA. The 12 year-old currently holds the top spot in the standings after his two victories at the season-opening Mazda Race of the Americas in April and two runner-up finishes at the second round in Utah back in July.

Menezes' most recent Stars event at USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI was a troublesome outing. After beginning the weekend with solid on-track sessions, Gustavo was involved in two accidents during the first JICA final - the second involved him flipping over and out of the kart. Trying to fight back the next day was just as difficult, adjusting to a new kart while avoiding wrecks throughout the day. When the final checkered flag fell, Menezes wrapped up the Eastern Division standings in fifth, just a few points outside the top three.

With his two victories and two second place finishes in the West, Menezes heads to Moran with a 50-point advantage over his competition, a calculation that already includes the one drop allowed per driver. As Shawano proved, nothing is final until the last lap is run, so Menezes will be going for both victories on the weekend at a track with which he is very familiar.
