G-Phactory inks Nick Halen for 2008 season
February 18, 2008 (Huntington Beach, Calif.) -- G-Phactory is proud to announce that it has signed Nick Halen to join its Sodi Racing USA team for the 2008 Stars of Karting presented by the Indy Racing League season.
Halen impressed during a 2007 season which saw him finish fourth in the Stars of Karting Western Division championship before he put in an inspired performance at the SKUSA Supernationals, finishing fifth in the SuperPro race. Halen also earned the distinction of being the very first Stock Honda champion at the Supernats in 2005, before winning the ProKart Challenge's Stock Honda championship in 2006.
No surprise, then, that Halen will again race in the ProKart Challenge in the Stock Honda class, but he will also join Ryan Yop as those two lead G-Phactory in the Stars of Karting's ICC class. Halen will run both the Eastern and Western Divisions in 2008.
"I got to test the Sodi Kart with the G-Phactory guys in Fontana, and the kart was very good," said Halen. "But I really liked the atmosphere within the team. It was laid back and everyone is very nice, but they obviously take it seriously and are very intense.
"Ryan Yop did a great job with the team in ICC last year. I hope I can help the team to continue in a positive direction."
Halen, a mechanical engineering major at the University of Nevada, Reno, marks a key addition to G-Phactory's team in the headlining ICC class.
"Obviously, Nick is a very talented kart racer, as he proved throughout last season," said team co-manager Phil Giebler. "With him and Ryan together in ICC, the Sodi Karts are in very capable hands and will be at the front throughout this year. Ryan fought it alone last year in the class, but with Nick racing with him we'll have twice the data and twice the opportunities to get some wins."
Halen and the rest of the G-Phactory team will kick off their season April 4-6 at the Ocala Gran Prix in Ocala, Florida.
