Alexander Sims wins Race of the Americas

Continuing his run of success in the United States, Alexander Sims showed the way home to some seventy ICA class karts at the Mini Cooper Race of the Americas in Norman, Oklahoma on a cold rainy weekend. Qualifying seventh in the time trials he won the pre-final and final at the 2006 kick-off round of "Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL.

"It's been a hard weekend but this win is very important to my backers Stemilt Growers, Ocean Spray and Jewel Date Company," the eighteen year old said. Starting on grid two for the final, he took the lead at the first corner and maintained a four second gap to the chequer. Racing on the seven tenths mile kart circuit, Alexander was reaching speeds of eighty mph on his Italian CRG machine. "The kart was great, thanks to Rob Gough (Gough Motorsport), Lee Burford, my mechanic, and Don Parker of Nodtune who did the engines."
