Team DeJorge-Harley Davidson Palm Beach attains excellent result in final event of Winter Tour in Ocala
Court "Courty" Vernon climbed the podium with an outstanding second place finish in the JICA Class, during the Formula Winter Tour event in Ocala, this past Sunday. Vernon's result followed a sixth place finish in the previous round. Starting in last, after a blown engine during the qualifying race, Courty showcased his potential and confirmed the team's expectations that he would be on the podium very soon.
A great starter, and more adapt to the carburetor and its tuning during the races, Courty Vernon secured a strong result in a race he could have won. "Our team gathered all the data from this weekend's sessions held in a circuit that challenges the kart's set-up. The track's conditions were changing very rapidly, and our strategy for the race was right on. I made two small mistakes toward the end of the race -- after taking over first place -- and Brett [Smrz] overtook me two turns before the end, leaving me no chance to pass him again. We are very confident on our upcoming performance in the Stars of Karting, and I feel very much at ease in a Series that is extremely competitive," said the driver following the podium ceremony. Courty Vernon is sponsored by Harley Davidson Palm Beach and Captain Harry's, one of the most traditional and specialized fishing retailers in Florida.
Another DeJorge driver, Dion von Moltke faced technical challenges during the weekend. "We found a great set-up for the chassis only prior to Sunday's race, but I started off too far behind and a contact with another driver at the start created a gap between me and the front-runners. On Saturday, in an accident involving many drivers [causing a red flag] I injured my ribs -- causing me to race in a great deal of pain. Considering the problems we had and comparing our lap times with the leaders', I know we are doing all the right things. This was my first championship in the ICA series, and we achieved our goal," said von Moltke. Dion is sponsored by Team VOMO, a driver management company, and Cheetah Technologies, a South-African manufacturer of diamond mining equipment.
Both drivers will be taking part in the Stars of Karting Series opening race in Oklahoma, on March 18 and 19.
