A group of traveling star champ karts were at POCONO MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY Sunday, June 25th and put on one of the best kart racing shows to date. Star champ karts look like sprint cars and have a 10 HP-modified engine on them reaching speeds up to 80 mph on the 1/3-mile oval. Winning the 20 laps feature event in the star champ karts was John Joseph Sr. from eastern New Jersey.
Pro Stock driver, Mike Weaver returned to competition in the 2 cycles to finish 4th with newcomer Brian Dacosta taking the win. Returning to the track after the wild flip he had 2 weeks before, was Steve McCracken, who finished 3rd in the Briggs light class. Current points leader Pat Koller went on to take the win. The Jr. caged division saw a heated battle between Josh Labatch and current points leader Shayne Balliet who had to use his back up car for the feature due to engine problems, Josh Labatch went on to take the win. The Briggs medium class was filled with plenty of drafting excitement with regular PDKA racer John Hoffman of Freeland taking the win. The adult caged division had their best battle of the year with 4 karts battling for the lead each and every lap with Tom MacDonald of New Jersey coming out on top. Barry Troutman took the win in the super heavy's. The rookie caged proved that long time competitors at the speedway could also work together with their children as Kevin Balliet lent Mike Rodriguez his son's back-up kart to race Sunday afternoon. Michael Rodriguez usually races in WKA and PDKA races. He doesn't have a caged kart and wanted to race this Sunday at the Pocono Mountain Speedway. Michael Rodriguez of Drums, Pa went on to take the win in the rookie caged division. The micro-sprint feature was rained out and 2 action packed features will be run next week.
The Summer Heat Racing Series continues next Sunday afternoon with all Kart classes and Microsprints.
