Pearce Herder claims two class wins in downpour

MOSPORT, ONTARIO Pearce Herder didn't let a little well a lot of rain slow him down. The Stouffville driver claimed two Pfaff Fast Qualifier awards and two class wins on Saturday in round five of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels. Other winners on the day were Jeff May, David Ostella who also took home the GM award and Kevin Monteith.

Rotax Max Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Pearce Herder

Pearce Herder finished third in the prefinal, then rebounded to win the final by .7.1 seconds over Stefano Romano. Mike Vincec won the prefinal, but a departing rear bumper saw him have to retire in the final. Third in the final went to Eric Gerrits.

Canada Junior Heavy
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Michael Di Meo

Michael Di Meo was able to win the prefinal over Keenan Harris and Cory Luciano. In the final, Di Meo slipped to second, with Kevin Monteith taking the win. Kenny Riedman was third.

F1-K Cadet
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Garret Grist

Kenneth O'Keefe took the win in the prefinal over Anthony Furfari and Reid Arnold. In the final, a hectic battle still isn't over. It seems a number of karts failed tech and the officials are still making a decision on some protests that were filed. As soon as the results are known, an amendment will be sent out.

World Formula Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Joshua Korenyi

Joshua Korenyi took the pole, but his day went down hill from there. He finished second in the prefinal to Jeff May who also won the final. Scott Laporte was third in the prefinal. In the final, behind May came Emerson Baker and Jesse Facchini.

Canada Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Pearce Herder

Pearce Herder enjoyed a good day. He took the Pfaff Fast qualifier in two classes and won them both. In Canada Senior Herder won the final over Greg Rempel and Evan Hayden. In the prefinal, Herder finished third, behind Evan Hayden and Steven Mathews.

F1-K Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Cory Luciano

Cory Luciano took the pole, but finished fourth in the prefinal. Zac Mahoney won the prefinal ahead of Vincent Rago and Jesse Chaisson. In the final, Luciano won on the track but was penalized one position for passing under yellow. That gave the win to David Ostella, with Luciano second and Vincent Rago third.

GM Racing awards for outstanding skills went to David Ostella for his victory in F1-K Junior.
