Mike Vincec garners another podium
TORONTO, ON. -- (JULY 19, 2004) Stouffville, Ontario resident Michael Vincec came home with two more top five finishes from this weekend's competition at the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) held at 3S Go-Karts in Sutton, Ontario. The 13-year-old seventh grade St. Mark's School student did triple duty over the weekend as he entered the Rotax-Max Junior, Formula Junior and Junior Heavy divisions.
After performing well in Friday's test sessions, Vincec was looking to put his Basement Imaging Group, GoDecalZone.com First Kart on the pole in all three classes. With changing track conditions for every session, the talented young Canadian would start both the Junior Heavy and Rotax Junior class from the inside of row two and his 80cc shifter kart from the 6th position
FORMULA JUNIOR Several attempts at the standing start and a penalty assessed to another competitor elevated Vincec to the 5th starting position for the pre-final. Battling an ill handling kart, the 13-year-old fell off the pace and finished the race in P6. With heavy rains the final events were put off until Sunday morning where Vincec put on a great display of driving. With a rocket ship start and some bold moves under braking, Vincec came home with another 3rd place result and an improved position in the overall series championship.
ROTAX-MAX JUNIOR After qualifying 4th for the pre-final, Vincec had a carburetor problem on the start and was forced to retire from the race. The BIG racing crew along with support from First Kart North America went to work on fixing the problem as Vincec would have to start from the tail of the thirty-two kart field. Turning race laps faster than the leaders, the Stouffville, ON resident made pass after pass eventually moving into the 15th position where he would eventually finish. Disappointed with the problem in the pre-final, Vincec was happy with the result. "We had a fast kart today and think that we could have won. We are going to take next weekend to test the Rotax at Mosport and sort out any problems before the next major event."
JUNIOR HEAVY A threat at every event, Vincec battled with a group of drivers for the victory in Junior Heavy pre-final. Changing positions every lap, Vincec managed to stay out of trouble and finish where he started in the fourth position. As the green flag flew for the final, Vincec tried an outside move into the first corner where he slid into the second position. Trailing the leader for several laps, the challenger was bumped off the racing line and lost several positions in the running order. Vincec put his head down and drove well for the remainder of the racing taking his second top five finish of the weekend in fourth.
The young Canadian is looking forward to the remainder of the 2004 racing season and the opportunity to move up the motorsports ladder. Mike would like to thank Pilot Race Gear, First Kart North America, TXM Race Engines, www.godecalzone.com, and Tri-V Manufacturing for their continued support.
Michael Vincec and his BIG Race Team's next pro event will be the July 30 -- August 1 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. Vincec will compete his 80cc Junior kart in the third round of the Stars of Karting Eastern Championship
