A dramatic end to the second round of SRFKC
Vincec, Korolev, Herder, Ostella and Lennie take wins
HAMILTON, ONTARIO The Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels ended the weekend on a very dramatic note. The final race was F1-K Senior, and three laps into the final the rains came. The race was stopped so that rain tires could be fitted and the race was back on under now sunny skies. Mike Lennie, after loosing the lead in the rain to Richard Hibbs came home with the win. All the other winners on the day, clean swept their classes with pole, prefinal and final wins. It was Mike Vincec in Formula Senior, Artem Korolev in Canada Junior Light, Pearce Herder in Rotax Max Senior and David Ostella in Rotax Max Junior.
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Mike Vincec
Mike Vincec dominated the prefinal ahead of Tom Cadieux and Corey Usher. In the final, it was much the same story for Vincec as he won his second Formula Senior final of the year. Curtis Fox kept him honest by keeping the pressure on, but he had to settle for second. Some 12 seconds behind the lead two, Tom Cadieux was third.
Canada Junior Light
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Artem Korolev
In the prefinal, Artem Korolev won the prefinal over Austin Milwain and Reid Arnold. In the final, it was once again Korolev taking the win over Milwain. Julius Makos and Reid Arnold had a good battle for third with Makos coming out on top.
Rotax Max Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Pearce Herder
Pearce Herder led the field of 39 Rotax Max Sr drivers to the flag, and he led from flag to flag. Behind him were Michael Vincec and Marco Di Leo. Vincec was unable to make the call for the final stuck on the grid with a mechanical. Pearce Herder was the eventual winner after taking the early lead. Herder got shuffled back, but when new leader Marco Di Leo got held up by a lapped kart, Herder was back in front for good. Herder won, a brilliant run for Brad Forbes netted him second and Marco Di Leo was third.
Rotax Max Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier David Ostella
The Rotax Max Jr prefinal was won by Pfaff Fast Qualifier David Ostella. Ostella was pressured by Kevin Monteith, but Monteith has to settle for second. Cory Luciano was third. Ostella won the final with a five second cushion over Jonathon Treadwell. Kevin Monteith came home third
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Mark Woyslaw
In F1-K Senior, Mike Lennie overtook Pfaff Fast Qualifier Mark Woyslaw and moved onto a four second win ahead of Woyslaw. Jesse Chaisson was third. In the final, it was once again Lennie taking the win over Michael Deaves and Jesse Chaisson.
GM Racing Award
The GM Racing Award is awarded to the driver judged by the series to have displayed outstanding competition skills and sportsmanship. The award on Saturday went to Darryl Timmers for his clean sweep of Canada Senior. On Sunday the winner was Artem Korolev for clean sweeping the Canada Junior Light class.
Pratt & Miller Team Spirit Award
The Pratt & Miller Team Spirit Award is presented to the participant (s) judged by the series to have exhibited outstanding teamwork in the areas of presentation, preparation and results. The winner this weekend was presented to driver David Ostella and his tuner Mike Roth for their two win weekend.
The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
